A Simple Way To Tie A Headscarf

How to tie a headscarf

I’m a firm believer that accessories (like a headscarf) make an outfit truly special. I mostly wear neutral clothing and because of that accessories are what truly make my outfits special.

Outfit Details: J.Jill Tank Top (similar here), Gap Skirt (similar here), American Eagle Belt, Scarf (similar here), SOJOS Sunglasses, Necklace (similar here), Vintage Purse (similar here), Lauren Conrad Heels (on sale!)

This year I’ve been gravitating a lot towards hair accessories. So far I’ve talked about hair clips, headbands, and now today I’m sharing how to tie a headscarf! Over the years I’ve worn scarves so many different including around my neck, around the handle of a purse, and recently in my hair. This scarf matched my skirt too perfectly not to wear it and after several attempts to tie it, I finally settled on the way shown here. Below I’ve included step by step instructions on how I tied my headscarf.

HOW I TIED MY HEADSCARF

For reference, the scarf I’m wearing has a long rectangular shape that’s 14 in wide by 60 in long. You can easily recreate this look with any long rectangular shaped scarf. If your scarf is too wide try folding it lengthwise until you get the “headband” width you are looking for, or just scrunch (or spread out) the sides of the scarf once it’s on your head to get the width you want.

Step one, before wrapping the scarf around your head first tie a knot in the center of the scarf. Next, position the knot on the top of your head centered where you would normally wear a headband. Lastly, double knot the ends of the scarf together at the base of your head behind your hair. That’s it! You can leave the ends of the scarf hanging behind your head, or bring them forward like I did above.

Another accessory I love to add to my outfits are belts! I’m always switching up the way I finish the end. Currently, my favorite way is to tuck the end behind the buckle leaving the rest hanging down.
