What To Wear To An Art Museum

Products purchased through this post may earn me a commission.

What to wear to an art museum

A few weeks ago my husband, some friends, and I went to the St. Louis Art Museum. I’ve always wanted to go to an art museum and when we finally decided to go I couldn’t wait to pick out my outfit! Today’s post features my reason for the outfit I chose as well as what I thought of the St. Louis Art Museum.

Outfit Details: Chicwish Top (similar here), Urban Outfitters Dress (similar here last seen here) & Shoes (similar here), Zaful Sunglasses (see last picture similar here), Michael Kors Purse (similar here), Kate Spade Necklace, 2nd Initial Necklace (similar here), Coin Necklace (similar here)

When deciding what to wear to the museum I settled on a linen dress, wrap sweater, ballet flats, and a cross-body bag.

Dresses

I love dresses because they are so easy to throw on and go! Dresses not only keep you looking pulled together, but comfortable as well. I chose to wear this linen button front dress (last seen here similar here) because of the comfortable fabric as well as how easy it is to style, just like a good pair of jeans.

Knit Wrap Top

I layered this knit wrap top (similar here) over my spaghetti strap dress incase I got cold in the car during our almost 3 hour drive, and/or if the temperature in the museum was cool. Plus, it rained that day and I wanted to have an extra layer to keep me dry without having to carry a trench coat. This wrap can easily be taken off and tied around my waist or placed in my cross-body purse if I decided to remove it. Also, I wanted to add something a little unique to my outfit and I love the bow on this top.

Satchel Cross-Body Bag

Because of all the walking and picture taking I wanted to bring a purse that would keep my hands free. I love that this purse (similar here) can be carried, worn over the shoulder, or across the body. That way my hands and/or shoulders never got tired. Besides cross-body purses, or satchels (with the top handle like the one I’m carrying), I also love belt bags and backpacks for the same reason.

Balet Flats

Since I knew we would be doing a lot of walking (the St. Louis Art Museum is huge!) I wanted to wear comfortable yet stylish shoes. I decide on these blush ballet flats (similar here) that also happen to match the handles of my purse and knit wrap top so well.

Knit wrap sweater

This light blue linen dress acts as the perfect canvas (like a good pair of jeans do!) to layer on. I chose a wrap, purse, & shoes that complemented each other helping tie the whole look together. This same outfit formula can easily be repeated with any neutral dress. Just style the dress like you would your favorite pair of jeans for a simple yet elevated look!

Layered gold necklaces
Accessories

I could’t complete the look without a few of my favorite accessories! This v-neck top is perfect for layering on the necklaces. I recently purchased this C necklace (similar here) from local boutique Prairie Gardens for only $7! Also you can find my B necklace, and a similar coin necklace here.

The St Louis Art Museum

The St. Louis Art Museum is HUGE and we had no idea where to start. Shortly after arriving and locating the restrooms 😂 we started wandering around viewing the art/objects on display. Before leaving we each made sure to visit our must see sections before time ran out. I really wanted to see the impressionist art before leaving and shortly after finding and viewing it we happened to wondered into the contemporary art section. That by far ended up being my favorite! The large scale art, the pops of color, as well as the rooms the contemporary art was held in. The light wood floors, high ceilings, and white walls were all so beautiful. This space definitely gave me some inspiration for updates I want to make in my own home.

The St. Louis Art Museum is free to visit, beautiful, and so large! I highly recommend it and we plan to visit again soon.
