For the last few weeks I haven’t worn a sweater, sweatshirt, or cardigan unless it’s layered with a blouse! I shared in this post how my white linen blouse is my most worn and versatile piece in the summer, and now I find myself reaching for it just as much this winter! Today I want to share how easy it is to layer your favorite sweaters.

This past fall and winter I’ve been noticing a trend for layering sweaters. It not only feels fresh and chic but it’s also practicable too. If you live in the Midwest like I do you’ll appreciate the extra layer this time of year.
Add A White Blouse Underneath
My favorite way to layer a cozy sweater this season is to add a white blouse underneath. Adding a white button down adds a layer of chic sophistication to any outfit. This one that I’m wearing here is my favorite, but I also like this one, this one, and this one too. Plus, a white linen blouse is probably something you already have in your closet so you can try this trend right away!
Wear Them With Cropped Sweaters
An added layer underneath from a white button down is great for cropped vests or sweaters too! This sweater that I’m wearing is cropped and hits just at the top of my jeans, but with winter here I do appreciate the extra layer keeping me warm.
Prevent Bulk
If you’re worried about the extra layer adding lumps underneath your sweater try wearing a button down with medium to thicker sweaters, sweater vests, sweatshirts, and cardigans. A thinner sweater fabric will easily show any bunching from your blouse underneath.
This Look Is So Versatile
There are so many ways to style a white button down underneath a sweater! You can leave the tails hanging out like I did or tuck them in. Same goes for the sleeves. I chose to pull the cuffs of my sleeves out to really show my layers off, but you can choose to have them tucked in too. Another fun styling feature is that you can choose to pop your collar or not. And depending on the neckline of your sweater you can show your blouse all buttoned up or you can leave the top couple of buttons open for a more undone look like I did.
What To Wear Over Your Blouse
Besides sweaters try layering a white button down with vests, sweatshirts, and even cardigans!
Try Wearing A Shirt Dress Instead
Another fun twist on this look would be to wear a white button down dress and layer a sweater, cardigan, vest, or sweatshirt over it! Add in some over the knee boots and you have a very appropriate winter outfit.
Have you tried layering a white button down this fall/winter season? Or are you planning to give this look a try?
