Sandals Emerald Bay Bahamas

This past fall my husband and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary in the Bahamas.

The Resort

We stayed at Sandals Emerald Bay, an all inclusive resort in the Great Exumas. When it comes to travel we’re up for anything, but prefer to relax on the beach and get a little bit more sun before the holidays start. See our trip to Jamaica last year here.

Food

This all inclusive resort had 11 restaurants to choose from. We tried to eat at all of them (I think there were about 4 we didn’t get to) and quickly found a few that we loved and wanted to eat at again and again.

For breakfast it felt so luxurious to stay in and order room service so we could enjoy it out on our private balcony. Thankfully the resort was not crowded so no need to rush out and secure a spot on the beach.

Since we mostly stayed out on the beach we enjoyed eating right there in the sand at Barefoot By The Sea. It was all so good (they mainly served seafood) I think I tried almost everything on their lunch menu.

Our favorite place for dinner turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I wanted to go to Soy, a sushi restaurant, and my husband having never tried sushi before wasn’t up for it. I’m so glad we went anyway because we both loved it, so much so that we went there a total three nights during our stay.

Dessert at Soy

Thanks to my husband’s love of sweets we found ourselves at Cafe de Paris several times a day.

Excursion
While we were in the Bahamas we decided to take an excursion that stopped off on four different islands. We saw the swimming pigs, a deserted island, were the rock iguanas live, and the sand strip where parts of Pirates Of The Caribbean were shot. The excursion lasted about four hours and was by far the highlight of our trip.

First stop we got to see the island where the swimming pigs live. They swam right up to our boat placing their two front hooves right up on the side of the boat looking for food. Competely tipping our boat to one side because of their enormous size. After feeding and swimming with them they laid down in the sand for a nap.

Next we visited a small uninhabited island. One side had a small beach and the other side we watched the waves crash upon the rocks.

The part of the trip my husband was most excited for (I was excited to see the pigs) were the rock iguanas. They live on their own little island and completely covered the beach. We got to feed them grapes and pet them like they were pets.

Our last stop was a pleasant surprise to us all. Normally they take guests snorkeling, but I guess the weather was a little too breezy for their liking, so they took us to a little strip of sand that’s only visible for part of the day because of the tide. This was one of the locations that the movie Pirates Of The Caribbean was shot, and by far our absolute favorite part of the whole trip. The water was so beautiful, clear, and definitely the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. I could have stayed there all day.

Night Life

Each night the resort would come alive with colorful lights, live entertainment, and they would lite fire pits all around the resort. We would relax by the fire and enjoy the live entertainment after dinner each night. One of the nights during our stay happened to be Halloween and the resort was decorated that night, they put on a Halloween skit, as well as hosted a costume contest. We didn’t know about the contest so we didn’t come prepared with costumes, instead I wore this black lace dress and my husband sported an orange shirt.
